"Like Stevie Wonder and Jeff Buckley thrown in a blender." - Bryan Beller, Dethklok

Rocked to sleep as a child to Stevie Wonder, Dechen Hawk's music ranges from beautiful ballads to serious backbeat funk. Hawk's sound is a refreshing new addition to the Neo-Soul movement. Though musical his whole life, it wasn't until the death of his father at age 14, and the search for a way to express that loss, that Hawk found his calling as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. It was also at this time the Hawk was introduces to the music of Jeff Buckley, which influenced him heavily during this time of grief and musical exploration. Hawk's desire to create and express the joy and fragility of life has kept him busy for the past 22 years performing locally and internationally, sharing billings with such legends as Martin Sexton, Bruce Hornsby, Leon Russell, and the Fun Lovin' Criminals, as well as sharing the stage with members of The Motet, Big Gigantic, Juno What, Kyle Hollingsworth Band, The New Mastersounds, Euforquestra, Analog Sun, The pimps of Joytime, Punch Drunk Monkey Funk, Ty Burhoe, and Ron Miles. During this time Hawk has written hundreds of songs, released 7 albums, been in numerous bands, played the role of talent buyer for various venues. A 2009 graduate of Naropa University, Hawk studied with Bill Douglas, Art Lande, and Janet Feder.

"One impression you get from Hawk is that generosity is not just a courtesy; It's a business plan." P.J. Nutting - Boulder Weekly

All Four: Colorado

We worked on this with our talented friends at Futuristic Films and Greenhouse partners for the University of Colorado's new campaign All Four: Colorado. For this project our LA composer Daniel Alcheh wrote an original score and recorded live orchestra in Budapest and the final mix and VO recording was done by Elliot Hunt out of our Boulder studio.

Here are some pics from the session:

In the studio with Grey

In the studio with Grey

We have been having a ton of fun with Greylyn "Grey" Paluszynski in both our LA and Boulder studio lately! Grey was featured in theme song "We Go On" that we wrote and produced for the Chinese feature film IMPOSSIBLE that we scored.

Grey also recorded vocals for a brand anthem film for boa which we scored and mixed for Futuristic Films, you can check out a sneak peak in the video above. Stay tuned, more exciting collaborations with this talented singer coming soon!

Reach New Heights

We always love working with Futuristic Films, and their latest eye-popping spot, for Marmot's newest gear, was no exception. It features beautiful VFX work from Friends Of Mine, and captures just about everything that’s incredible about true winter. Read the full details and credits on the Egotist. Feel the icy blast here:

Take a Contagious Ride

We were honored to work with Oscar-winning documentary director Daniel Junge and top editor Davis Coombe of Milkhouse, scoring the short documentary An Avoidable Epidemic, about road safety in Brazil, sponsored by Liberty Mutual insurance.

Strike it Rich

Produced by our friends at Cactus, this smart and sweet Colorado Lottery spot makes us smile every time. We licensed the music from our own music library, LA Audio Lounge (LAL), which is now online and making waves (more in detail about LAL in our next newsletter).

Touch Your Heart

Among several beautiful spots we mixed for Boulder’s Mrs. K, we chose this uplifting one featuring USA Network's Change Makers campaign and Nationwide Insurance.

Man(ning) up to MS Healthcare

Scored for University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and The Manning Family Fund, this set of spots features football legends Archie and Eli Manning: two sports stars doing important social good. Together with Jasper, Jonnie and the rest of the team at Futuristic, we kicked off the campaign with this:

Gobble this…in flight

Flying Delta this month? You can get your turkey fix with the vibrant promos we custom-scored, sound-designed and mixed for the 2014 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Summer heat map from alcheh&hunt

Our offices have been sizzling with hot projects from around the country.

From Hollywood to Colorado to Europe and beyond, our offices have been on fire with projects. A new Time Warner Cable campaign, promos for ABC's THE BACHELORETTE and FOOD NETWORK STAR, A&E's promos for THOSE WHO KILL starring Chloë Sevigny, and music for Nike and Crocs' international stores are just a few of the things keeping us busy. Get the details on these and an explosion of other new projects here.

Powerful Connections

Teaming up with Troika in Los Angeles and Spider in Denver, we took on sound design, original score and mix for Time Warner Cable's latest campaign for the new super-fast Internet service.
The Perfect Ingredient

We had the tasty fun of mixing a plateful of promos for the new FOOD NETWORK STAR. We handled the sound design, sweetening and final mix. Here's a tasting:

Singular Sensation

You were probably not able to escape these on TV -our Boulder studio did the sound design, sweetening and final mix for the promos on ABC's THE BACHELORETTE "Salon Chair Confidential" campaign, presented by Suave Professionals. Get hitched to one here:

Killing it in Hollywood

We hinted at this in our last newsletter, but were waiting for the big on-air reveal. Well, we think this news was worth the wait: alcheh&hunt worked with Boulder's own Mrs. K to score, sound-design and mix the TV promos for A&E's new series, THOSE WHO KILL, starring Chloë Sevigny. Get the chills here:

Running the Show

Nike licensed a rocking track from alcheh&hunt for a Lunar Vapor sneaker spot, starring baller Mike Trout. Take a look.

Seeing Stars

Located within the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium is named after the Grand Rapids-born astronaut who lost his life in the 1967 Apollo 1 spacecraft fire. alcheh&hunt licensed the library music, and did the sound design and 5.1 surround mix for the new rich and realistic planetarium installation.

Walking the World

Crocs licensed some happy music from our library, for its online and in-store spots in the US as well as TV spots throughout East Europe and Asia.

Head of the Class

Together with Futuristic Films and Genesis, we did the sound design, wrote the original score and mixed Northern Michigan University's new long-format brand identity film.

What else? Well, if you insist, we...

won by a hair - Supercuts' new 2014 brand video is set to music that was licensed from our library.

made a house call - we worked with Waypoint Films and Vermillion to create some fun video and radio spots for Door To Door Organics.

kept the faith - we produced singer-songwriter Dave Tamkin's new song for theLove, Strength and Hope Foundation and worked with budding new Colorado star, Gracie Fox, on two new singles. Click to check out the first single, "Down".

Dishing out some holiday cheer

Get excited about the holiday season with this national spot we scored for Dish Network promoting their “25 days of dishMAS” program. We worked with Abigail Seymour and her team at Wyatt to craft this merry orchestral score - along with sound design and mix - that complements their festive, frosty animations.

Shine on my parade

Always grateful to work for Macy’s, we provided custom score, mix, and sound design for  three animations promoting their Thanksgiving Day Parade. The spots are featured on Macy's social website, and aired on Delta Airlines flights. We recorded guitars in LA, drums in Boulder, and renowned Dixieland players in Atlanta. Check out our music and the beautiful animations from our friends at Dancing Diablo, below!

Tough stuff

alcheh&hunt joined Wade Paschall and his accomplished team at Grenadier to custom score this  inspiring spot for Husky Liners.

Music on board

Together with Jasper Gray at Futuristic Films, we hatched a heartfelt original score for Boulder-based Boba Inc.’s new web video promoting their line of baby care products for active parents.

Sizzling sounG

Together with producer Kristen Del Calzo and the talented people at Rabble+Rouser, we cooked up some smokin' long-format videos and sizzles for Weber.

What else? Well, if you insist, we...

    • created promotional spots together with Mrs. K for a new television series to premiere in 2014 on A&E
    • worked with Agency Zero to create some fun TV and radio work for HexFuel and Romantix
    • teamed up with Whizzbang Studios and Genesis to create TV and radio spots for the  Denver Art Museum and the Grand Rapids Art Museum, respectively
    • produced the release of our friend Dave Tamkin's single, "Empty Pages,"  and worked on a new track with singer-songwriter Brooke Tomlinson
    • and even recorded a new Christmas song!

Some of our friends and colleagues were deeply affected by the recent flooding in Boulder and surrounding areas. There is an ongoing need for help. Please, click  here to do what you can to help get our communities up and running again.

Summer Notes from alcheh&hunt

Here's what our studios have been cooking up:

Good medicine

Together with Tristan Olson and our friends at Vladimir Jones, we created new TV and web spots for Centura Health. The project included original score, music mix, and a sonic-mnemonic tag for the brand. Riposte was in charge of production and post-production, and Tyler Stableford was the director responsible for the shiny, beautiful-looking campaign. Check it out by clicking here or on the image below:

Get the picture

We scored, recorded voice-over, and mixed some  Denver Art Museum spots for the amazing folks at Whizzbang. Together, we also created the new promotional video for Boulder's The Dairy Center for the Arts.

So bright, you'll need shades

We worked with our friends at Factory Design Labs on the coolest, most creative sound-design job ever: an innovative concept well-deserved of a company as innovative as Oakley.

So cold, you'll need a jacket

We had a rockin' time working closely with Jed Mortenson of Waypoint Films for Free Country's national TV/web campaign. Our renegade original score and mix complemented the dangerous, unpatrolled mountain terrain in spots directed by Kevin Emmons. We can't wait to share these spots with you!

Definitely delicious

Have you found yourself salivating for a good burger recently? Umm...yeah...sorry about that. We mixed the  national Smashburger spot for Nate and Brad at Definite Pictures.

What else were we up to? We...

  • ...had a blast working closely with one of our favorite directors, the brilliant Anson Fogel of Camp4 Collective
  • ...made fresh and clean music for AXE (yeah, the shower one)
  • ...continued writing, producing, and recording songs with our talented artist-friends, including Daphne Willis, Dave Tamkin, and Dechen Hawk

And if you saw any of the Movies in the Park events at Broomfield Commons Park in July, you heard our music playing loudly before every film!

When you need your music, sound design, and mix to stand out from the clutter, sound like a record, and win awards, please call or email us. We're always looking for partners in crime!

Here's to a wonderful and creative summer!

An Inspiring Start to the Year

Here is what has kept us busy in recent months...

Set the world on fire

Cosmetic giant Aveda and Global Greengrants Fund are lighting up lives during Earth Month. With the new Aveda Light the Way Candle, 100% of profits from the aromatherapy candles will go toward providing clean water to communities across the globe. We worked with Futuristic Films to create this dynamic promotional video for the initiative....

Ever heard of a kidney matchmaker?

University of Colorado Hospital tells the tale of amatchmaking program that's saving lives, a flak jacket fragment found inside a bone (!), and more surprising, true stories. We were honored to be hired by Denver ad agency Cactus to write and produce the scores to this series of short inspirational videos. See and hear them on the hospital's sleek new website, featuring live strings recorded with top LA players.

Want to know what it's like to race through a swamp?

Discover the high-mud, high-stakes racing world of Unimogs--four-wheel drive Mercedes-Benz trucks--in the soon-to-be released feature documentary from  Futuristic Films, This is Breslau. We are just finishing the last touches on the score, sound design, and final mix of the film that follows Jay Couch, a leader in the Unimog community, and his team as they prepare for and race in the dangerous, thrilling Breslau "rallye" from Poland to Germany.

The Mission screens at the LA Comedy Shorts 2013 Film Festival

We were honored to hear that The Mission, a comedic short (with a devilish twist) directed by Definite Productions' Nate Watkin, was selected into the LA Comedy Shorts 2013 Film Festival. Our score features an appearance from multi-talented Boulder-based singer-songwriter Dechen Hawk. We were also responsible for the sound design and final mix. Best of luck to Nate and Definite as they continue to get press coverage for this attention-grabbing short!

This was a natural

We worked with Made Movement Marketing Agency to tell the story behind Joshua Onysko's Boulder-based natural cosmetics company, Pangea Organics. Watch for this promotional video to be released soon.

Please, call or email us if you have any original music, sound design, and/or audio post work. We'd love to help!

Here's to a happy and prosperous spring!

Hollywood Music in Media Award, Macy's Parade music and more!

Greetings friends, clients, and collaborators. The weather is cooling off here in Boulder but the sun still shines in Los Angeles as we move into the holiday season.

Here is what's going on...

Introducing Our Boulder Location

In the last few months, our new Boulder studio has attracted some of Colorado's brightest (and most famous) musical talents. We are in the midst of some very exciting projects. With panoramic views of the Flatirons and one of Colorado's finest heirloom rose gardens, our beautiful new studio is located in North Boulder (AKA "NoBo"). We have the combination of gear and talent that can move mountains.

News from The Trouble With Bliss

We were honored to hear that our soundtrack for The Trouble With Bliss - the feature film starring Michael C. Hall, Peter Fonda, Lucy Liu, and Brie Larson, released on Sony Classical this year - has been nominated for Best Soundtrack at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, this week. We are up against big Hollywood features, such as Argo, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and Pitch Perfect. Cross your fingers for us on Thursday, when we will be at the ceremony in Hollywood.

Macy's Thanksgiving Parade Song

We worked closely with the creative department at Macy's to create and produce a rich and powerful track for the Oneida Nation's float, featuring Grammy-winning vocalist Thirza Defoe and an amazing full choir, recorded in NYC. We then mixed the song in Boulder. This will be part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade performances broadcast live on national TV, so be sure to watch and listen!

We always want to extend the invitation for you to come by and visit us. We would love to show you around and play some music for you. Give us a call on our Boulder studio line - 303.440.3744 - and we'll set up a time!

Here's our first nod to winter - a medley of some of our cool "trailer music" to rock your morning...enjoy on your work computer or with a snifter of fine cognac at home!

Stay warm,

The alcheh&hunt team
